Can Turtles Live in a Fish Tank with Other Pets?

Thinking about adding a turtle to my apartment, where I already have a parrot. This brings up an important question: is a fish tank a good home for a turtle? While I know some turtles are aquatic, I’m unsure if they can coexist with fish or need different conditions.

I’ve come across many tank setups online, but finding solid advice on compatibility and care has been tricky. Are there recommended tank sizes or filtration systems for keeping turtles? Also, how do turtles interact with fish? Would the presence of a turtle stress them out?

Has anyone tried housing a turtle with fish? What issues did you encounter, and would you suggest this arrangement to others?

Turtles can definitely stress fish out, and some might even see them as a snack! If you’re set on mixing them, I’d recommend a larger tank with plenty of hiding spots for the fish. Also, do you know what type of turtle you’re looking at? Some are way more aggressive than others.

Turtles can definitely stress out fish, so it’s usually better to keep them separate. If you go for it, make sure to have a tank that’s big enough—30 gallons is a good start for a turtle, and you’ll need a solid filtration system to keep the water clean. Just keep an eye on their interactions!
