Choosing the Right Tank Mates for Your Betta Fish

Selecting tank mates for a betta can be more challenging than it looks. I have a small aquarium in my Seattle apartment, and I want to add some different fish without stressing my betta out. I’ve read about some species that are supposed to get along, but I’m concerned about potential territorial issues or aggression.

I’ve come across suggestions for peaceful options like neon tetras or guppies, but I’d love to hear about your experiences. Have you found any successful combinations? What signs do you watch for to ensure everyone is coexisting peacefully? Any tips for introducing new fish without causing a scene would be greatly appreciated!

When I added guppies, my betta was surprisingly chill at first, but after a few days, he got pretty aggressive. I’d suggest floating a divider for a bit during the introduction so they can see each other without losing their cool. Also, watch for any fin nipping—it’s a red flag! Good luck with your setup!
