Creative DIY Toys for Aquatic Pets

Living in a busy household in Toronto makes it tough to keep my aquatic pets engaged. Recently, I’ve been trying out some DIY toys to spice up their environment. For example, I created a simple plant holder from a plastic bottle, which has turned into a popular climbing spot for my fish!

I’m eager to hear about other creative DIY projects that have worked for you. I’ve come across some ideas that use safe materials from around the house, but I want to ensure they’re both enjoyable and safe for my pets. What successful DIY toys have you made? Are there any materials you’ve found to avoid or best practices to keep in mind?

That plastic bottle idea sounds cool! I tried a DIY sponge filter once, and it helped give my little tank some extra hiding spots. Just watch out for sharp edges if you’re recycling stuff—my cat once snagged a cut-up yogurt lid and I had to fish it out before anything happened!

Try using mesh bags stuffed with aquarium-safe materials like sponge or soft fabric. My shrimp love hanging out in them, and they’re super easy to make. Just make sure nothing has sharp edges!
