DIY Toys for Freshwater Fish: Tips and Ideas

Life in a busy family home in Toronto makes it a bit tricky to keep my aquarium lively for my fish. Recently, I’ve started exploring some DIY toys that not only enhance their environment but also allow the kids to pitch in. However, I want to ensure that the materials I use are safe and appropriate for freshwater species.

So far, I’ve made a few simple things, like floating plants out of foam and repurposing old kitchen utensils as decorations. The fish seem curious about them, but it’s hard to tell if they actually enjoy these additions. Does anyone have suggestions for easy, safe DIY projects that can entertain fish? What materials should I steer clear of?

Have you discovered any particular toys that your fish love? How do you ensure these toys are safe for your aquatic pets?
