How Do You Choose the Best Substrate for Your Reptiles?

Selecting the right substrate for reptiles can be challenging, especially if you want to ensure a safe and comfortable living space for them. With various options like coconut fiber, sand, and paper towels, it can be tough to determine the best choice for your pets. Personally, I’m leaning towards coconut fiber for my bearded dragon, but I’ve come across mixed reviews about other substrates.

Some of my roommates argue that sand mimics a more natural habitat, while others express concerns about the risk of impaction. And then there’s the cleaning routine to consider, since we all want to keep the enclosure easy to maintain. What substrates have you found to be the most effective for your reptiles? How do you prioritize their health and comfort? Also, any tips on mixing different substrates or transitioning from one type to another would be appreciated!
