How do you make DIY cat toys that keep your cat engaged?

Finding the right DIY toys for my cat has been quite the journey! With so many ideas out there, it can feel overwhelming to choose. I want to create something safe and entertaining, especially since my roommates’ pets love to join in on the fun in our Chicago apartment.

Recently, I crafted a feather wand using a stick and some colorful yarn, and it was an instant favorite. However, I noticed that my cat tends to lose interest pretty quickly. I’m curious—what homemade toys have you found engage your cats for longer? Any tips on keeping their attention? Let’s share our experiences!

I made a simple crinkle ball using some balled-up aluminum foil and a bit of catnip inside. My cat goes nuts for it, and it only cost like 50 cents to make! I just toss it around, and she goes after it for ages. Super easy and keeps her engaged!

I made a crumpled paper ball with some catnip inside, and my cat goes crazy for it! He loves digging it out and chasing it around. Have you tried adding treats or some jingly bells to make it more exciting?
