How do you select the best enrichment activities for pets?

Finding the right enrichment activities for our pets can feel overwhelming due to the sheer number of options out there. These activities are essential not just for keeping them entertained, but also for supporting their mental and physical health. What strategies do you use to match enrichment activities to your pets’ unique needs?

For instance, some dogs thrive on puzzle toys, while others prefer more active playtime. Similarly, cats have varied interests—some love to explore their environment, while others may want to lounge, even with plenty of toys around. Have you developed a system for rotating activities or choosing new ones based on your pets’ moods?

I’d love to hear about what enrichment activities have been a hit with your pets and how you keep the fun going. What do you all think?

I’ve found that rotating toys and introducing new scents can really engage my pets. For my dog, every few weeks I’ll switch out the puzzle toys and toss in some snuffle mats. As for my cat, I’ve realized she loves things she can bat around but also appreciates a good box to explore. Mixing it up based on their moods really keeps them interested!

I get what you’re saying, but I think a lot also depends on the individual pet’s personality. My dog loves those sniffing mats way more than any puzzle toy, even though I thought he’d be into those. Mixing things up based on what they gravitate toward seems to work best for me.
