How often should you give your cat a bath?

Bathing a cat can be quite different from bathing a dog, especially when it comes to grooming habits. With dogs, I stick to a regular bathing schedule, but I’m not quite sure what works best for cats. Some say you should only bathe them when they’re dirty or have been outside, while others recommend occasional baths for shedding and skin health.

Since cats usually take care of their own grooming, it seems like finding a balance is important. How often do you bathe your cats? Does it depend on their fur type, age, or even where they live? I’d love to hear your experiences and if there are specific signs that tell you when a bath is needed!

I usually only give my cats a bath if they get into something messy or have really bad fur mats. Otherwise, they seem fine with just regular brushing. One of my friends swears by a bath every few months though, especially for their long-haired cat.

I rarely bathe my cats unless they really need it, like if they get into something messy. For regular grooming, a good brush helps a lot, especially with the long-haired ones. Just keep an eye on their fur and skin—if they start to get greasy or flaky, that’s usually a sign they might need a bath.
