How to Choose the Best Tank Mates for Your Fish

Setting up a community tank can be a rewarding challenge, but finding the right tank mates for your fish can be tougher than it looks. I currently have a 55-gallon aquarium with a mix of tetras and guppies, and I’m thinking about adding some larger species. My main concern is balancing aggression levels to ensure that everyone gets along.

I’ve heard that some fish can be surprisingly territorial, even if they look compatible on paper. What factors do you take into account when choosing new fish for your existing setup? Have any of you faced unexpected challenges after adding new fish? I’d love to hear your stories and any tips you have to share!

I added some platys to my tank with tetras and guppies, and they were totally chill at first. But after a few weeks, the bigger platys started being a bit aggressive during feeding time. Now I’m keeping a close eye on them to avoid any drama. Definitely makes you rethink what’s actually compatible!
