Keeping your dog happy and engaged can be challenging, especially when you’ve just moved to a new neighborhood. What activities or routines have you found effective in this situation? Since my dog enjoys exploring, I want to make the most of our new pet-friendly environment in Chicago.
I’ve heard about some great parks and dog meet-ups in the area, but I’m interested in hearing how others have helped their dogs acclimate to these new settings. Are there specific games or training exercises that have made the transition easier? I’d also love to know how you use positive reinforcement during these new experiences. What tips do you have to share?
When I moved, I started going on daily walks to the local parks, which really helped my dog explore and sniff around. We also joined a nearby dog training class—it’s a great way to meet other dogs and their owners while keeping them engaged. Playing fetch in new spaces is awesome too, since it gives them a chance to burn off energy while discovering their new surroundings!
Taking my dog to the local dog park really helped us both settle in when we moved. It’s been awesome watching him make new friends and burn off some energy. I also started using a lot of treats when we explored new spots to make it fun for him. The positive reinforcement really clicks!
