Is it okay to eat goldfish? Looking for opinions and stories

I’ve been having an interesting conversation with my roommates here in Chicago. We all love animals, and while joking about our pet goldfish, someone raised a serious question: can goldfish actually be eaten?

I know they’re typically kept as pets and not meant for consumption, but I’m really curious. Has anyone ever thought about eating a goldfish, or even tried it? With the right preparation, is it possible for them to be edible, or is this whole idea just too far-fetched?

I’d love to hear any experiences or stories you might have regarding this unusual topic. What do you think—should we keep goldfish as pets, or is there any merit to the idea of eating them?

I’ve never eaten goldfish, but there’s a wild story about this guy I knew who accidentally dropped one in a soup while cooking. He said it was really not noticeable, but man, that’s a hard pass for me! I think they’re best as pets, not dinner.

Eating goldfish sounds super weird to me! I mean, I’ve never heard of anyone actually doing it. They’re so tiny and bony, I can’t imagine it being worth it. Plus, they’ve got that whole pet vibe going on, you know? Better off sticking to more traditional fish if you’re looking to eat!
