Is it safe for goldfish to live together in a tank?

When it comes to keeping goldfish, deciding whether to house them alone or with others can be confusing. Some people believe goldfish do best in groups, while others caution against potential aggression and territorial issues.

For those who have experience with multiple goldfish, what combinations have you found successful? Are there certain breeds that tend to get along better than others? Also, how many goldfish do you think can comfortably coexist in a single tank without causing stress?

Tank size is another consideration. What do you believe is the ideal space for a group of goldfish to thrive together? I’m eager to hear your insights and experiences!

I’ve had good luck keeping comets and fantails together in a 55-gallon tank. They seem to get along just fine! As for space, at least 20 gallons for the first fish and an additional 10 gallons for each one after that usually works well for reducing stress.

I’ve kept a few goldfish together for a while now, and I’ve found that commons and comets tend to get along well. I think a 20-gallon tank is a good start for a small group, but they grow fast, so more space is always better. Just keep an eye on the water quality, especially if you add more fish!
