Is it safe to be around cat litter during pregnancy?

With a baby on the way, many expectant parents start to reconsider daily routines, particularly when pets are involved. Cat litter can be a concern due to the risk of toxoplasmosis, which has raised some questions for me. I have a cat and regularly clean the litter box, but I’m eager to learn how to stay safe during my pregnancy.

Has anyone else navigated this issue? Are there particular brands of cat litter that are considered safer, or any tips for reducing exposure? Additionally, are there alternative litter options that might be better for pregnant individuals? I’d love to hear how others have balanced this situation.

I totally get the concern! When I was pregnant, I switched to a brand that’s clay-free and made from recycled materials. It helped ease my worries about toxoplasmosis. Also, if you can, maybe ask someone else to handle the litter for a while!

When I was pregnant, I switched to a corn-based litter since it’s clump-free and doesn’t have all the dust that can get kicked up. Just make sure to have someone else clean the litter box if you can! Also, wearing gloves and washing your hands afterward really helps. It’s definitely manageable with a few adjustments!
