Tiny worms in my fish tank – what are they?

I’ve recently found some tiny worms wriggling around in my fish tank, and it’s been a bit concerning for me. I’ve kept reptiles in the past, but managing a fish tank is new territory for me. These worms seem to be living in the substrate and are becoming more noticeable. Is this something that happens often?

I’ve heard mixed opinions on these worms. Some people say they’re harmless, while others suggest they might be a sign of issues like poor water quality or too much waste buildup. With a busy household that includes kids and pets, I want to ensure my fish stay healthy without causing too much disruption.

Has anyone else experienced these worms? What strategies do you use to deal with them? I’d love any tips on maintaining a clean tank while keeping my fish safe!

Those little worms are probably detritus worms, which are usually harmless and just indicate some extra waste in there. Regular vacuuming of the substrate can help; I do it every couple of weeks. Just keep an eye on your water quality too, and you should be good!
