What DIY aquarium toys work best for fish in busy homes?

Setting up an aquarium in a bustling family home is exciting but comes with its challenges. With kids running around, I want to ensure my fish have stimulating toys to keep them active and entertained. DIY options seem perfect, but I’m unsure about the best materials to use that are safe and durable. Some toys don’t last long, and I definitely want to avoid anything that could harm my fish.

I’ve experimented with a few DIY ideas, like using repurposed materials to create floating plants and simple sponge filters. I’m curious if anyone else has found success with specific toys or crafts in their aquariums. What materials do you recommend for enrichment, and how do you ensure they’re safe for your fish?

I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips for creating a fun and safe environment for our underwater friends!

I’ve made some DIY hiding spots using PVC pipes and some silk plants. They hold up pretty well, and the fish love darting in and out. Just make sure to smooth any rough edges and rinse everything well before adding it to the tank!

I’ve used netting to make little hanging structures with fake plants, and my fish love swimming through them! Just make sure to check the materials are fish-safe, like silicone or certain plastics. Have you tried anything similar?
