What to Consider When Choosing a Habitat for Your Bearded Dragon?

Setting up a proper habitat for a bearded dragon can be a bit daunting with all the choices out there. My roommate and I want to create an environment that feels natural and comfortable, but we’re not sure what features should take priority. Is the substrate more important, or should we focus on lighting and heating?

We’ve come across various habitat setups online, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Some people swear by glass tanks, while others recommend a more open-air design. We want to make sure our bearded dragon feels secure and can thrive without stress. Have any of you tried different habitat setups? What worked best for you?

I’ve had success with a mix of both! I use a glass tank but left some areas open with branches for climbing and basking spots. Lighting is key, but don’t underestimate how much they love a good hideout; it makes them feel way more secure. Just keep the temp consistent, and you should be good!

I’ve set up a few habitats, and honestly, I found that good lighting and heating make the biggest difference for my beardie. I used a glass tank but made sure to add plenty of hiding spots with plants and rocks. It really seemed to help him feel secure and he’s way more active!
