What types of enclosures are best for reptiles?

Choosing the right enclosure is crucial for a reptile’s comfort and health. There are numerous options available, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Glass terrariums are popular for their visibility, allowing both pet owners and their reptiles to enjoy a clear view. However, they can be heavy and sometimes challenging to regulate temperature. On the other hand, plastic tubs are lightweight and easy to modify, but they might not be the most visually appealing choice for your living space.

Different setups can work well depending on the type of reptile you’re keeping. Some enclosures can maintain humidity better than others, which is vital for many species. What has been your experience with various types of enclosures? Do you have any tips for keeping humidity and temperature stable, no matter what kind of setup you use?

I’ve used glass terrariums for my snakes, and I found that adding a heat mat on one side helps a lot with temp control. For humidity, I use a hygrometer to keep track and mist the enclosure a bit every few days. It’s definitely a bit of trial and error to find what works best!
